Manolo Rivero is the man behind the hotel, and it's artistic nature. Before opening the hotel in '89, Manolo Rivero was already heavily involved in the art world. He is a well known art collector, mainly of modern art, but also has an extensive collection of antiques and other objets d'art. He has used his extensive knowledge and experience, his uncanny eye for the beautiful and artistically valuable and part of his collection, to piece together the hotel. He started with an old mansion and gradually added section upon section, converted from other old buildings, and decorated it all with an eclectic taste of culture.
He has three art galleries within the hotel, and shows approximately three times per year. In his efforts to promote young talent, the shows range from local student artists to sophisticated international artists such as Julian Schnabel, Roberto Matta, Francisco Toledo, Pedro Rivera, Sandro Chia and many more. There is always a show ongoing in at least two of the galleries, which are open during the day, and can be entered through the hotel.
The hotel itself full of art and culture. Art Nexus magazine (July '92) and Mexico City's La Jornada newspaper (March 2003), among several other important publications, both list the hotel as an art museum. La Jornada also states: "Another space of unsuspected surrealist magic is Hotel Trinidad Galeria…".
The combination of a quiet, comfortable room, at a great price, downtown location, pool, parking, cafeteria, plus Mexican and international art from start to finish, make a unique experience for the traveller who appreciates culture. Former guests of noteworthy character include artist and film director Julian Schnabel, actor Dennis Hopper, the late Joe Glasco and an endless list of Mexican and Latin American artists.
